Last year I said to myself “I have got to get back to watching movies I haven’t seen” and made a goal to watch 12. I ended up watching 12 movies total all year and 6 of them were re-watches. It is what it is! Not sure what happened to my film intake ability; I’m sure it has something to do with an intersection between comfort and over-stimulation and etc but that’s not what we are gathered here to discuss. I want to talk about a revelation I had of which the impact may last ~1 week and may last ~all year, it really doesn’t matter and only time will tell.
I was recently given* a tablet by my beloved husband. I for some reason didn’t expect it to have sound (huh?) and so was pleasantly surprised to find that wow: these things have speakers these days. And would you believe it: the library has streamable films.
Okay I have to give two more bits of context. 1: I’m hyper mobile and I need to be very Aware Of My Joint Health. 2: I’m get scared easily by scary movies but when a screen is small I get less scared.
Ok so what is the revelation? It’s that I can both knit and watch a movie on my shiny new tablet at the same time and I can sit somewhere comfortable to do it. And by so doing, I can “set a timer” for how long I can knit before I need to get up and stretch and give my hands a break. YES it is different from sitting on the couch and watching something on the actual television and knitting and NO I cannot explain why.
All this to say: I got several rows done on a finicky project AND I watched Night of the Living Dead**! They’re coming to get you, Barbra!
*a sidebar to note how much I hate the word “gifted” ugh it’s so gross I hate it. What did “given” do to deserve this? I mean I get it, people wanted a word other than “given” or “gave” and it takes too long to say “a brand sent this to me as marketing material and/or it came with a contractual obligation” but STILL.
